1. Purpose ( Start here )

Sat Dec 06, 2014 4:02 pm by Jeraan Taruk

With the discovery of the extensive modifications and work that the development team of the Tarkin EMU have put together, it is natural that a partnership mutual partnership can be struck between the two project to implement changes to the game that will bring prosperity to both communities, Tarkin and Second Act.

As such, while the Tarkin guys focus on maintaining and streamlining server stability, they will also work joint the Second Act Project development team and will work on a series of expansions that will add new functionality, enjoyment and immersion to the game.

With any luck, the partnership between us will be fruitful. And as such more players will be brought to Tarkin server, to enjoy a game that has new life breathed into it.

Who are "Tarkin"?

Tarkin EMU can be found here, it is pre-cu based, and essentially used the SWGEmu as an engine. Kinshi, the server admin, and his talented team are working on a number of projects already that will I see, limit the servers reliance on the Emu, with the addition of Tarkin test center ( which should totally be called The Maw tbh) a new launcher with easier server / client updates etc. More will be added as the proposed partnership continues.

Who are "The Second Act Project"

The Second Act, or SA, was a devoted roleplay community on SWG EU server Farstar. We prided ourselves on realism roleplay, the "Uncle Owens" of the universe, the everyman. We strives to live in the SW universe not just play within it. As such we often thought about what ideal changes we would like to make to the game that would cater to our playstyle via mechanics server side, thus not having to waste time managing and settling RP arguments. Majority of those changes are housed / conception on these forums.
With the new partnership with Kinshi and Tarkin, we will finally be able to create and implement these changes to attract all those that just want to live in SW and immerse themselves in character. While not effecting the existing playerbase of Tarkin.

"Why cant this just be one project?"

We have entered into discussion for a proposed partnership for a number of reasons. Some of those are to share resources to reduce cost. Some are to share experience. To share the fruits of collective labour. Also it is to keep distinct identities, some may not wish to play our playstyle and they should not be forced to either. However, the changes we seek to make could be considered drastic, for the sake of immersion this will not be the SWG you once knew. It will be better.

"Im hooked/ interested in helping what do I do?"

Just make an account to this forum, post in the new entrants section who you are, background, skills etc. I'll change your permissions and get you going. Even if you are not experienced in SWG, but have always wanted to be involved in some game development please don't feel shy.

"I'll help, I dont have a lot of time to spare.."

While i'd be lying if I said that wasent a shame, but your if you have some experience with the developmental process then your experience is going to be invaluable. Even if it is from a consultation point of view to assist someone who has not got as much experience as yourself, but more time to physically dev.

"I am already an existing Act forum member, why cant I see whats going on?"

To streamline the productivity, I have limited the development sections of the expansion to a developer only group ( admins are exempt from this ). This is to prevent thread de-railing. That section is only for the reference and production of the expansion. You will not be kept in the dark however. Periodically when progress is made, sections will be copied for general viewing and discussion.

"Does this mean you are attempting to bring back The Second Act Roleplay community?"

Yes, and no.
The SA RPC as it existed is dead and died with live server galaxies. Furthermore, I no longer have the time to manage everything, and even with joint leadership of a good friend, I still would be too busy IRL to manage it and RP. This is why we are now working on the SA Project. This will add the relevant changes to the game that will promote our play style of heavy immersion at a server / client level. Which will mean I will not have to manage anything out of character.
When the projects are completed, The Act will be back in a manner, but in a way that will be subtle.
